1 loaf of Rhodes frozen bread dough
1/2 cup of butter or margarine
1/2 cup brown sugar
Cinnamon to coat bread.
1 1/2 cup of chopped pecans or walnuts, divided ( optional)
1/2 cup raisins (optional)
Follow the directions on the frozen dough packaging.
Once thawed, prepare your working area by sprinkling flour over your rolling surface. Flour your rolling pin a little as well. Now, roll the dough out in a rectangle shape approximately 15x8 inches. Be patient and don't get discourage. Your dough will want to retract, but hang in there, it will begin to hold shape the longer you work with it. This truly is the toughest part of the recipe.
Using a spatula, coat the bread dough with your butter or margarine, but do not coat all the way to the edges, because the dough will not stick together when you roll it up.
Now, coat your buttered dough with cinnamon (cover it really good). Then sprinkle the brown sugar all over it. (If you prefer a less sweetened cinnamon roll, you sure can cut the sugar amount back).
If you are choosing to add raisins, (why wouldn't you??) sprinkle them on now.
Then add half of the chopped nuts. (optional)
Next, starting from the edge closest to you, began to roll the bread up. Your roll isn't going to look very "full", but trust me, it's gonna GROW!
Roll up your loaf of bread, like you do a pumpkin roll or jelly roll, and then pinch the seam together.
Place seam side down. Using a sharp knife, or kitchen scissors, start making each cut approximately 1 1/2 inch thick. (One loaf makes approximately 12-14 rolls.)
Let it rise (draft free warm place) for an hour or so. I place mine in the oven with the light on. The heat from that along with a bowl of warm water seem to work good. Let them raise until doubled in size.
While the rolls are raising you can make up the maple glaze topping.
1 cup of powdered sugar
1/2 tsp. Maple flavoring (use good quality like Watkins brand)
1/2 cup of milk
Mix your flavoring and powdered sugar together, pour the milk in a little at a time, so it is not too runny (If it is more runny than you like add more powdered sugar).
After the rolls have risen to desired size, dot the top of each roll with a pat of butter.
Bake at 350 until golden brown. (Approximately 15 to 20 minutes.) Remove from the oven and drizzle your maple topping over each roll thoroughly.
Sprinkle the other half of your nuts (if using) on top of your rolls.
